Built to the design of Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, building began in 1902.  The first section, what is now St Joseph's Chapel was first used in 1908.  In 1910 the second section opened, which comprised of the Sanctuary, the Nave and the Porch.

Later the church was completed by extending the Nave and building a new Porch, the earlier porch was fitted out to be the Walsingham Chapel.  The completed building was consecrated on 25th March 1935.

The beautiful font housed here is copied from the Seven Sacrament font of St Mary's, Little Walsingham and was the work of a local sculptor, Herbert H Palmer.
