SHERINGHAM ADVICE CENTRE.
Sheringham Advice Centre was established as an independent advice centre in 1988, when the
town unsuccessfully sought C.A.B. funding. In the last few years the management structure
has been strengthened and updated to ensure we continue to offer the best possible service
to all who call to see us.
Measures taken include:
Registering as a full member of advice (formerly known as The Federation of independent
Advice Centres)
Introducing a 24-hour answerphone service for telephone callers
Splitting from our former status in order to set up our own management committee and
constitution.
Producing policy statements on equal opportunities; on confidentiality and on complaints.
A website (you are on it now!)
A mission statement to provide FREE ADVICE FOR ALL.
In December of 2001 these efforts were recognised by the Charity Commission for England
& Wales who granted us full charitable status. Everybody is welcome to use the
centre's expertise either by telephoning us or just calling in to see us no appointment
needed.
In recent years we have answered queries on: DSS (now DWP) Benefit matters; housing and
other local government issues; legal matters- knowing when to involve a solicitor;
employment disputes; residential and nursing homes and consumer affairs- finding
ombudsmen.
If we do not know the answer to a query, we usually know a man (or woman) who does!
Sheringham Advice Centre is staffed entirely by volunteers.
